We generalize Bonk's distortion theorem on the unit disc in the complex plane to locally biholomorphic mappings on finite dimensional bounded symmetric domains. As an application, we obtain a lower bound for the Bloch constant for various classes of locally biholomorphic Bloch mappings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
