The dynamic response of a composite rotor blade subject to impulse load is experimentally investigated. Impact test procedures, including the design of the rotor blade and impactor, are performed in accordance with MIL-STD 1290 A. Impact tests conducted using an impactor cylinder with a large weight beneath the load cell reveal that this setup fails to capture the dynamics of the complete impactor, leading to inaccuracies. To overcome this limitation, an improved apparatus is developed, in which the load cell is positioned beneath the impact area of the rotor blade. The improved design is validated by comparing the measured absorbed energy against that determined solely from displacement measurements. Additionally, numerical predictions are derived to assess the reliability of the test results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
