In this article the author presents an overview of the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) activities and its impact on electronic collection development in Turkey in 2009. There is a great demand for higher education in Turkey because of the large amount of youth: 44 percent of the population is below the age of 25. This demand has resulted in the operation of 54 new universities since the year 2000. The article provides a chart which lists the growth in numbers of members and licensed databases.
