Infineon, a semiconductor manufacturer, has announced that it will be introducing a Rust programming language compiler for its TriCore architecture processor families. Rust is being considered as a potential alternative to C/C++ in automotive software development due to its unique memory safety features. Infineon has collaborated with HighTec EDV-Systeme to release an ISO 26262 ASIL D qualified Rust compiler for the TC3x and TC4x processors. This compiler is part of a larger Rust ecosystem that includes peripheral access crates, peripheral drivers, a Rust runtime, and tools from various companies. The HighTec compiler also comes with a pre-configured cargo build system for easy access to the Rust ecosystem. Additionally, there are example projects that demonstrate the use of both Rust and C/C++ in software development for TriCore processors. [Extracted from the article]
