This article reports on various product announcements made by Microsoft during its Professional Developers Conference in September 2005. Microsoft announced Windows Workflow Foundation (WWF), a Windows technology that will enable developers to stitch together Microsoft Office applications and custom-built software into composite, enterprise-class workflow applications. With WWF, Microsoft will be able to offer the first workflow-enabled operating system. Microsoft also introduced the first public beta versions of Vista and Office 12. Microsoft presents its new Atlas Web toolkit for building Asynchronous JavaScript and XML applications, plus a lighter, more portable version of Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) dubbed XAML/E. These introductions follow after Microsoft's surprise distribution of its Windows File System beta.
