Objective To investigate the effect of lecture-based learning (LBL) combined with problem-based learning (PBL) in clinical teaching of newly recruited nurses from the department of respiratory medicine. Methods Totally 80 newly recruited nurses from the department of respiratory medicine were assigned to the study group and the control group, with 40 cases in each group. The conventional LBL method was used in the control group, and the combination method of LBL and PBL was adopted in the study group. Results Nurses in the study group achieved higher scores in assessment of case analysis, nursing operating skill, medical record writing and theoretical knowledge compared with those in the control group(P <0. 05). Nurses of the study group considered the combination of LBL and PBL as an effective teaching method in improving independent study, problem solving and other abilities.
