Recent advances in information technology (IT) have revolutionized society, including the field of synchrotron radiation. Fourth-generation light sources provide high-brightness X-rays, allowing for the observation of fine structures and reactions in materials. The combination of modern IT and synchrotron radiation experiments has the potential to automate processes, analyze big data, and develop new X-ray science. This special issue highlights recent advances in experimental control and data analysis at seven synchrotron radiation facilities, showcasing the use of advanced computational technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
