Treffer: Scratch Out the Trash!: Using computer coding programs with elementary learners to reinforce simple and complex machines.
Weitere Informationen
This activity, designed for third-grade students, uses the free coding program, ScratchJr to reinforce student understanding of simple and compound machines, and to apply block coding skills to build a simulation of how trash could be moved using a compound machine. This lesson can easily be modified for higher or lower elementary grade levels. In this activity, students work to solve a classroom-level issue: too much trash on the classroom floor! Using ScratchJr, this activity reinforces NGSS performance expectations 3-5-ETS1-1, 2, and 3 Engineering Design. Through an interactive and fun coding lesson, students work independently and collaboratively within the ScratchJr interface to design compound machines that can simulate moving trash to a trash can. Key instructional strategies include integrating computer science and technology, employing differentiated instruction, leveraging culturally responsive pedagogy, providing hands-on extensions, and applying real-world scenarios.
