The structure, strategy and application effect of the Advanced Process Control ( APC ) and online dynamic Real-Time Optimization ( RTO) controllers of a 3. 8 Mt/a continuous reforming unit were introduced. The calibration results showed that after the APC was put into use, the standard variance of oxygen content of flue gas in the three-in-one furnace and two-in-one furnace decreased by 31. 14% and 31. 40% respectively. The standard variance of temperature in the charred zone of the regenerator decreased by 31. 65 %. The standard variance of the key controlled variables in the pentane and butane removal towers decreased by 38.28%, the aromatic hydrocarbon yield increased by 0. 69%, and the energy consumption decreased by 0. 67% . After the RTO was put into use, the yield of aromatics increased by 0. 33% . It was estimated that the annual economic benefits could increase by 47 million yuan, significantly improving both the operational stability and economic benefits of the unit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
