Software company BEA Systems Inc is making an interoperability play between .NET technology and the latest version of its WebLogic Platform, based on Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The company's deputy chief technology officer Benjamin Renaud told BEA is making a "renewed commitment" to interoperability between Java and .NET technologies as it launched version 8.1 of the WebLogic Platform as of July 21, 2003. Renaud defined interoperability with .NET to mean the ability for synchronous and asynchronous communications via SOAP between WebLogic and clients running software like Visual Basic and COM.
