Treffer: System and programs for computerized processing of abstracts

This report describes computer programs designed to cope with problems in computer-based manipulation of bibliographical data, especially the storage and retrieval of abstracts and the preparation of a photo-ready copy for periodic publication. A user's guide for maintaining relevant keyword files and abstract files is offered. Such keywords can be used in a hierarchical structure of broader and narrower terms. The method for conducting searches (either by author name or by keyword) and for obtaining a photo-ready copy is discussed in detail and is illustrated by examples. The system has operated satisfactorily since August, 1973, in the Mining Information Centre, Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (former Mines Branch).
