This article analyzes the reasoning behind judicial decisions in Ecuadorian civil proceedings from a qualitative perspective, applying a study of twenty-five judgments issued between 2018 and 2024. The analysis integrates documentary review, hermeneutical analysis, and content analysis. The main objective was to evaluate the normative, evidentiary, interpretative, and communicative sufficiency of judicial reasoning, identifying advances and structural weaknesses within the civil system. The most significant results reveal that, although 72% of the decisions adequately identify the legal issue, only 52% clearly justify the applied legal norm, demonstrating persistent formalism and insufficient constitutional articulation. Regarding evidentiary reasoning, documents and testimonies received more thorough analysis, while expert opinions and digital evidence exhibited critical weaknesses, with 44% and 52% of cases, respectively, receiving only partial evaluation, thus hindering the rational reconstruction of the facts. In the area of communication, an excessive use of technical language was detected, with 72% of rulings hindering public understanding, confirming the need to adopt plain language guidelines. Regarding legal interpretation, the literal method predominated at 68%, limiting the integration of constitutional principles and advanced hermeneutical techniques.
