Further Information
We begin by presenting the folding and interpolation architecture in a tutorial way. We then give definitions for the input offset voltage and gain of a folding circuit, and we relate them to the static deviations in the ADC transfer characteristic. We show that the non-linearity of the folding characteristics leads to interpolation errors that can be neglected (they are of the order of 0.1 LSB or less). We discuss the concept of bandwidth of a folding circuit and obtain the constraint that it imposes on the input frequency. We identify two major classes of folding circuits, and we derive their input offset voltages and compare their bandwidths.
