Some thought is given to what sensitivity analysis is and can do in the context of model based studies. We argue in favour of an extended role for quantitative sensitivity analysis, based on examples and quotes from practitioners (Section 1). Next we try to define what property a global sensitivity analysis should have (Section 2), offering at the same time some methods that appear promising with respect to these properties (Section 3). An example is given in Section 4 and our conclusion in Section 5.
