Context-Adaptive Variable Length Coding (CAVLC) is one of the binary coding algorithms used in the new video compression standard H.264/AVC. A new fast algorithm of CAVLC decoding is presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on efficient searching of binary trees with variable length codewords. Moreover, the time performance of CAVLC decoder has been evaluated for the wide range of bitrates of tested sequence. The processing efficiency of the new algorithm of CAVLC decoding has been measured and compared with the computational complexity of the CAVLC decoder implementation from the reference software in 7.6 version.
