The Evaluation Grid Method (EGM), a semi-structured interview method to reveal people's preference structure proposed in 19861, has stimulated a number of academic and business studies in Japan 2. The first part of this paper explains the procedure of EGM in detail, while the second part examines the authors' attempts to raise the efficiency of EGM by using e-mail instead of face-to-face interviews.
