Le manque de connaissances des professionnels de bibliothèques en applications informatiques, ainsi que l'indisponibilité de logiciels documentaires appropriés et bon marché, sont les contraintes majeures à l'automatisation des bibliothèques au Sri Lanka. En vue de surmonter ces difficultés, le réseau de bibliothèques AGRINET du Sri Lanka a développé un système intégré d'information pour les opérations de bibliothèques, basées sur CDS-ISIS. Ce système appelé PURNA, traite les opérations majeures d'une bibliothèque telles que: l'acquisition, le catalogage, l'indexation, la circulation, la gestion des périodiques, le bulletin signalétique et la DSI. Il génère les formulaires, lettres et rapports spécifiques à toutes ces opérations. PURNA est idéal pour les petites et moyennes bibliothèques au budget et au personnel limités, qui cherchent un logiciel intégré bon marché.
