Cet article présente la méthode de l'exploration interactive comme une méthode formelle de recherche documentaire. Il tente de montrer que le système de recherche documentaire idéal allierait deux styles de recherche interactive : à la fois le feuilletage (ou browsing) et l'interrogation. De plus, les résultats et les méthodes présentés à la conférence TREC-3 sont discutés, et les plans d'avenir concernant l'utilisation en visualisation et d'autres styles de feuilletage pour la recherche d'information sont soulignés.
