La bibliothèque de recherche de l'université d'Iowa aux Etats-Unis a développé un système d'information basé sur le réseau World Wide Web pour la fourniture d'informations, la communication avec les clients, faciliter l'utilisation d'Internet et d'autres ressources électroniques, et comme un outil d'enseignement. Cet article décrit l'implantation du University of Iowa Libraries-Wide Information System (LWIS). Les nouvelles structures organisationnelles qui ont dues être mises en place pour la mise en oeuvre de ce système sont présentées.
