Even if the registrar's function within an organisation is not well spread in Belgian private or governmental institutions, the Dutch approach should be redefined adopting new techniques and technology. The introduction of relational databases should bring more than a simple automation of the register book. Depending on the user profile, a more task and action-oriented approach, instead of subject approach, can integrate the document in the existing procedures. As such the step from document handling to task-oriented document handling is small, and the integration in workflow management systems can be achieved.
