Les auteurs soulignent que les systèmes de gestion électronique des documents ne sont pas destinés à remplacer les systèmes existants, mais à leur être complémentaires. Il s'agit donc d'outils permettant d'améliorer considérablement la gestion de la documentation au sein des entreprises du bâtiment. Un plus haut niveau de confiance et de satisfaction de la part du Maître de l'ouvrage devrait pouvoir être obtenu grâce à une amélioration des communications à ce sujet.
