Constructing bookshelves is usually done manually by the providers of online-book collections. This task requires human expertise and becomes tedious even for experts as soon as books too numerous . The librarian's Assistant, which makes use of numerical as well as conceptual clustering techniques to generate a hierarchy of bookshelves from a set of unorganized books. The librarian's Assistant can be used as a stand alone tool to assist documentation producers in the process of building manual bookshelves, in order to understand the underlying of a given library, as well as a facility integrated in an IR or hypertext system to expand the scope of searches.
