The advent of the multimedia personal computer (MPC) makes available substantial information processing and storage capability that can be accessed relatively easily through a powerful graphical user interface (GUI). The availability of low-cost resources such as these now means that new approaches can be used for the development and use of personalised tools for information handling. This paper discusses the design and implementation of a keyword-in-context (KWIC) indexing system for use on an MPC and the design of a GUI to support its use.
