This paper will look at the various access technologies and systems that are available for the home-based user of information. These can include the tele-worker, the distance learner and other home-based users. The paper will also explore the various options offered by the Internet and other communications technologies, and describe the Homelink project ― a European collaborative venture aimed at exploring user needs and appropriate technologies for home-based users. The paper will look at various software options that are available to home-based users and discuss the range of options as described by the models of multimedia communication developed by the author.
