This paper will describe the application of advanced transputer-based image processing techniques in the processing and retrieval of multimedia information. The database, which consists largely of a collection of historical museum photographs, is implemented on a Tandom microcomputer (IBM compatible) equipped with the necessary image processing and mass storage facilities, and linked to a network of four transputers.
