Beaucoup d'algorithmes permettant de résoudre le problème de remplissage des boîtes ont un comportement anormal et peuvent se comporter parfois en donnant des résultats pires lorsque les paramètres d'entrée sont améliorés. Johnson et Graham ont donné des exemples de ces comportements. On développe une technique permettant de les caractériser.
