This article analyzes the impact of the availability of scanner data, resulting from the computerization of retail stores, on the practices of national statistical institutes concerning the construction of price indexes. Notably, it details the methodological shift in the construction of price indexes allowed by the availability of scanner data and analyzes the technical constraints which can explain the (still) current low mobilization of scanner data by national statistical institutes.
Cet article étudie les conséquences de la disponibilité des données de caisse, résultant de l’informatisation de nombreux magasins, sur les pratiques de construction des indices de prix au sein des instituts nationaux de statistiques. En particulier, cet article détaille le changement de méthodologie dans la construction des indices de prix permis par la disponibilité des données de caisse et étudie les obstacles pouvant expliquer la faible mobilisation des données de caisse par les instituts nationaux de statistiques.
