The aim of the article is to develop a universal model of the concept art of a typical character, based on the definition of the main artistic stages of its projecting by means of computer graphics, as well as the outlightning of graphic means and artistic compositional techniques for the execution of a typical character as an element of book graphics, which are an effective tool for outlining and embodying his individuality. Results. The results of the development of the typical character’s concept art are presented, performed on the basis of the artistic design stages and offered by the author artistic project stages, described artistic and compositional means that form pronounced morphological, mental and emotional properties of the typical character, intuitively recognisable by the user. Scientific novelty. In this study, the presentation and systematisation of various approaches to the elaboration of the character’s concept art, which consider the object of design, tools and performance techniques in which modern illustrators and designers work are obvious. A clearer description of the concept of a “typical character” is provided, as well as 4 categories are offered for the development of his concept: characteristic concept, environmental concept, object concept, costume concept. An additional 5th category is offered. Its use is possible when it is necessary to transform a 2D concept into a 3D concept using computer technologies. The article defines the main stages, artistic and compositional peculiarities of creating concept art of a typical character. Conclusions. It is determined that the typical character is one of the most effective and powerful means of visual communication and influence on the user, who communicates his attitude to the surrounding reality and to himself through the system of visual and expressive means.
