A model is presented of the location of IT specialists in their principal workplaces and of changes that have occurred in this location, in the job content and in the management of IT specialists. Three main phases are identified in the development of computerization-different waves of movement stimulating change in the nature of IT work and in the management of IT specialists. The rise of end user computing interacting with the growth of new types of IT uses and users is highlighted. The author concludes by assessing the impact of a new phase of continuing change in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
