Treffer: Library automation with workstations. Using Apple Macintoshes in a special library.

The author examines the introduction of Apple Macintoshes as library work-stations at the Merriam Center Library over an eighteen-month period, as part of a large-scale automation project. This library serves the staff of the American Planning Association, American Public Works Association, International Association of Assessing Officers, and researchers from the Chicago academic community. Topics include background to the project, computing requirements, implementation issues, staff interaction, configuration of the workstations and strategies which are being planned for the future. The hardware configuration is presented in block diagram form, and an appendix displays a comparison of current microcomputer-based workstations available to libraries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
