Summary: We solve Gauss' problem for continued fractions with odd partial quotients by considering the transition operator associated with a certain random system with complete connections as an operator on the Banach space of complex-valued functions with bounded variation. We also obtain an improvement of the estimate of the rate of convergence given by \textit{C. Popescu} in [Stud. Cercet. Mat. 49, 231-244 (1997; Zbl 0916.11048)].
